People always tell me how lucky I am to be a florist, and most of the time I smile and remind them that it isn’t all pretty flowers and smiling brides. What I do every week is incredibly physical, and there’s a lot of wet-cold-messy-heavy involved in every arrangement I create. However, I do admit that my work is incredibly fulfilling, and not only because I work with beautiful things. I have the good fortune to be surrounded by and supported by people who are equally committed to the work we all do, and right now I’d like to give thanks for their presence in my life:

The rental companies have all been spotlighting their new linens, and the big news this season seems to be more about fabric and texture than about color. 

Gone are the ever-present taffetas and satins that we’ve seen so much of over the past five years. In their place we’re finding more earthy textures like heavy linens and cottons, in bold geometric or stylized floral patterns that almost seem like block prints.

Last week Flaurel Laurel attended the annual Client Open House put together by Hartmann Studios, one of the premier event rental companies in the country. The Herbst Pavilion at Fort Mason was completely transformed into a series of “rooms”, each showcasing the hottest new trends in event lighting, furnishings, tabletop decor, florals and food. For several hours I worked my way from one end to the other, sipping cocktails and snapping photos. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it….. !

“Hollywood Regency” is a 1950’s style that’s the latest hot thing in interior decor, and this space shows several key elements: oversized glass or plexi lighting element; white faux Rococo tables, panels and decor accents; and minimalist sofas –all in a white/neutral palette. A great look for a sexy corporate event!
